Welcome to the Hunterdon Breast Surgery Center. I am Dr. Montes, a board-certified general surgeon by the American Board of Surgery specializing in diseases of the breast. I am a current and active member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons. I also speak fluent Spanish and welcome our Spanish-speaking patients. I received my undergraduate education at Cornell University and then went on to receive a Masters in Public Health from the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health. I earned my medical doctorate degree from Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia and went on to complete my surgical training at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City.
I knew very early in my medical career that the treatment of breast disease was my passion. This knowledge afforded me the unique ability to seek out every opportunity to expose myself to the field at varying high-profile institutions working with some of the most prominent leaders in the field. During my residency, I completed externships at Memorial Sloan Kettering, Columbia University, and St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital. After completing my general surgery training, I was selected for the breast surgery fellowship at New York University Langone Medical Center. These opportunities allowed me to publish and present clinical research, perfect my surgical skills, and draw from many different schools of thought and styles to form my own unique treatment approach.
During this time, I realized that the integration of Eastern and holistic treatments to treat the mind and spirit were equally as important as state-of-the-art Western medicine to treat the body. I truly believe that the paramount of treating any disease is to bring East and West together, synergistically, and I embrace the integration of holistic modalities to do so. I work closely with the Hunterdon Health & Wellness Centers as well as with several holistic healers in the community and look forward to introducing my patients to the benefits of holistic modalities such as Reiki, acupuncture, massage, aromatherapy, and integrative nutrition.
When it came time to choose a place of employment, I knew that my time in the big city felt complete. I wanted to find a close-knit community to call home and to bring all that I had learned to the women of my community. Hunterdon County was the perfect fit and I feel very fortunate to call it my home. My goal is to not only offer you the utmost state-of-the-art care but also to provide the reassurance and guidance you need during your time of treatment. I spent six years commuting in and out of New York City so you wouldn’t have to. I hear you and I’m here for you.

I am a breast cancer surgeon. I received my medical degree from the University of Mississippi, School of Medicine in Jackson, Mississippi, and completed my surgical residency at Tulane School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana. I work closely with the Hunterdon Women’s Imaging Center and the Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center to give comprehensive support to my patient’s needs. I have been specializing in breast surgery for over 30 years, and it continues to be my life’s work. I care for each patient as if they are a member of my family. Breast cancer treatment is a different journey for each patient and requires understanding and encouragement. We are in this together and it is a privilege to care for each and every person who walks through our doors.
As Director of Breast Care Services and as a board-certified surgeon, I welcome the opportunity to provide care for our community. It has always been my passion to provide the best and most current treatment that is available nationally, benefiting each and every patient. The evolution of modern-day breast surgery has seen a frenzy of new technologies and discoveries which I have witnessed over the last 30 years, that have helped streamline the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. Now we make the diagnosis with a needle instead of surgery, our surgical procedures have become minimalized and treatment is guided through specific genetic markers. We continue to make giant strides in improving diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship for patients. Our work, however, is not done. We maintain our commitment to strive for excellence in the care of the breast cancer patient and to deliver it with kindness and compassion.

I am a board-certified physician assistant with over four years of experience in breast surgery. I received my Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from Monmouth University in Long Branch, NJ, and my undergraduate degree from Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, PA. Prior to joining Hunterdon Health, I worked as a physician assistant in breast oncology surgery and breast plastics and reconstructive surgery at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York City.
I am fortunate to work directly with Dr. Montes as part of her clinical and surgical practice to provide exceptional and personalized care to our patients. I assist in the operating room and I am directly involved in the clinical care of our patients before and after surgery. In the clinic, I examine and formulate assessments and plans for new and existing patients with benign, high-risk, and oncologic breast disease. I also perform minor procedures, coordinate patient care with their multidisciplinary team, and provide patient education.
I am certified by the American Heart Association in Basic Life Support (BLS) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), and I am a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the American Society of Breast Surgeons. On a personal note, I am from Jackson, New Jersey. In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family, boyfriend, two dogs, Buddy and Sophie, and friends whether at the beach, golfing, hiking, snowboarding, reading, or gardening.
