The birthing experience at Hunterdon Medical Center blends state-of-the-art technology with a variety of comfort measures to assist the mother in having a safe birth. Yet, what’s just as important is the level of attentive, expert care provided by the medical team.
An OB/GYN is a doctor specially trained to care for a woman’s reproductive health, including during pregnancy and following childbirth. Specifically, an obstetrician (OB) cares for a woman during pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum. A gynecologist (GYN) specializes in a woman’s general reproductive health. Every OB/GYN on staff works exclusively at Hunterdon Medical Center. This is a unique arrangement that ensures a coordinated, continuum of care. What’s more, every doctor is board certified and trained at a major U.S. University Center.
Our practices are able to treat higher-risk patients who either have a medical condition such as diabetes or who are having their babies later in life. We are also fully equipped to deliver twins and triplets. It is especially reassuring to know that our physicians are highly trained and are using the most advanced technology. At Hunterdon Medical Center you will be cared for by skilled physicians and a team of dedicated nurses, many of whom have received specialized training and hold advanced degrees.
The Maternity and Newborn Care Center is fully equipped to handle any complications, with two surgical delivery rooms just steps away should a cesarean section or other special procedure be necessary.

All Women’s Healthcare is a uniquely collaborative practice where doctors and midwives work together with a focus on advancing and promoting women’s health throughout the life cycle. They believe that information and education empower women to make the best decisions about their bodies and their health.
Midwives are Masters or Doctorate trained providers who care for women and their babies. They specialize in normal physiologic births where women are empowered to participate in decision-making during their pregnancy, labor, and birth. Midwives ensure the best possible outcomes for mothers and babies by using evidence-based practices and following standard guidelines for care. Midwives practice a low-intervention, continuous support model of care which is proven to have lower c-section rates, fewer epidurals, and result in healthier moms and babies. At All Women’s Healthcare, midwives typically care for low-risk pregnancies, but will always consult and collaborate, with the OB/GYNs on hand for higher-risk patients.
In order to offer the best care for you, Hunterdon Health offers a collaborative cross-coverage environment for prenatal care. While you may see one physician during your routine visits, a different physician may be on-call to deliver your baby. All of our on-call physicians are board-certified and ALSO (advanced life support in obstetrics) certified.
